All this time I thought I did not have alarm, but I was going through "features" page (unofficial, provided by my used car dealer) on my car and it says "factory alarm with keyless entry"
What are ways you can know for sure if you have alarm or not? And do all BMW's have "panic?"
When I first bought my car, I tried pressing/holding the buttons on my key fob and the "panic" didn't go off so I assumed for whatever reason my car did not have panic like most other cars.
But now I'm just wondering if the speakers that produce panic and alarm sound are broken?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. My warranty runs out in 2 weeks so if anything is wrong, I need to get it fixed.

I'll describe the issue in detail.

On cold start up, car is in Park, there is a single metallic clunk noise like a metal flap closes or something. I have a 2.5L NA N52 engine which doesn't have exhaust flap afaik - and the noise comes from under where I sit (transmission?) or closer to front (engine?). I cant figure out what it is, it is bugging the hell out of me, I've noticed it happening preetty much as soon as i had the car but it is intermittent, but happening more regularly on cold starts. I have a closed garage so temps now are very OK (say 50F). Car drives fine, smooth etc. Sometimes I'll hear the clunk when I put it in R right after start (to back out of spot), and that's it. I mean it doesn't seem to do it on warm engine, doesn't have this issue anywhere else. So I'm wondering what the heck it can be.

I heard about Vanos, I heard about flaps, I heard about some issues with gearbox. car is 2007 so very obviously out of warranty. How 'scared' i gotta be?

I'll go to mechanic today perhaps for a check up but would be good to get some inputs here.


I come from 5 years driving a diesel and my only issue in my old 320d was that engine shook a bit when it was cold (needed new coils!). I recently bought a Z4 and after I bought it I noticed that the front tire is higher (40) than the one on the back (35). It doesn't look good at all... can I rotate the rims to have the bigger tire on the front? I'm not very mechanically inclined, so this may be a dumb question.
