May not be as difficult as one thinks. On my E39 M5, we had a fellow member on the M5Board do this. It was a custom start-up screen on the DVD-based NAVs (displayed "M5" followed by a logo graphic with pic of the car, it was awesome!) He did incorporate even more options, where you can choose the voice to be with a female british accent narrator LOL (though it was probably a hack from the British cars as she referred to traffic circles as 'roundabouts' and told you to make a "U-turn" instead of the US version's "Make a Legal U-turn".

Here is a thread that describes it. Not sure how easy it is on our generation NAVs though.
