Haha... Speak to Justin in the name of "research"..

Its not so much the "step" but increased air flow area, without changing the depth thickness of the FMIC..BY the time air passes through a 6-7inch deep FMIC, it decreases its cooling qualities the deeper the core.

Agree with end tanks quality and shape.
