You're right. I cross shopped my 1er with used E46 Ms, and while I didn't dedicate full attention to the search, it was clear that it was going to be a months-long, not days-long process if I wanted to get into the right E46. Not to mention that the types of cars I would have considered buying were priced less than 10 grand less than I got a new-with-warranty 1er.
BUT when I take the 1er to the track, I will feel the wrath of that line of thinking as it pushes into corners and possibly limps out!
