Hmm, BMW warns you if a bulb is out? That's cool. But you're right. If you get a warning like that, a simple resistor on the circuit will eliminate it. Superlumination.com is the site I used for all of my LED replacements on my WRX. I replaced all of the exterior lights except the fogs and low and high beams with LEDs and just installed resistors on the front and rear turn signals. Takes a few minutes. No problems 3 years later except with the license plate bulbs burning out. But I think that's a problem my WRX was born with because it happens with regular incandescents as well. The site sells resistors as well.
