Sure, one could see it as grandstanding, but there is the myth in some quarters that the 135 is a what you get if you can't afford the 3. So when someone says that they could easily afford a more expensive car but chose the 135, it pushes back on that myth.
I mean, if I said that I'd choose the 135 over the M3, it's kind of BS, since I can't afford the M3.
