I'd agree with the idea of one change between scheduled changes - but why not have your dealer do it? If you specify an "Interim Oil/Filter" change without the usual other service checks, it generally costs around $100 in the US, perhaps a bit more in Canada.
This should insure that you get the correct oil and may even help build a relationship with your dealer's service department. Over the years, I've found this to be very useful.
