CA keys definitely don't charge, you can easily see the removable battery cover compared to a normal key, it is also logical as the CA keys don't spend a lot of time plugged into the dash(so they would rarely charge) so they use traditional batteries which have a longer life w/o being charged than the rechargeable units.
I have another question though: it has always perplexed me that the trunk release button on my fobs do nothing, except set the alarm off after a few seconds of pressing it? I have made the assumption that it does not remotely open the trunk as in 3 series and others and BMW did not redo the fob's w/o the buttons out of laziness or economics. Is this a designed flaw, or is my car functioning improperly? If I press the trunk button on the fob nothing happens, if I hold if the alarm goes off?
