Why do they call them lifetime fluids if they need to be changed? This is nothing new. I had an Audi in the mid-80's that had the same 'lifetime" fluid schedule.

Does lifetime fluid mean.... that they will hold up to at least 100K or 200K? BMW is taking a big risk if something would go wrong under a warranty period.

As for the picture above, discoloration does not necessarily mean a breakdown in it's chemical properties.
