Low profile tires don't give you much protection against wheel damage. I haven't heard much of any other complaints so I doubt it's a BMW thing. You probably just hit something once to crack the first wheel and then the second wheel was likely originally cracked prior to "reconditioning" and then the repair didn't hold. I had the exact same thing happen on my Porsche.
