Suppose you are driving through the Houston area via I-10 from the East (crossing from Louisiana) to the West, and you could schedule the driving for ANY time of day or night. What time of day - other than, say, 2:00 am, would give you the best chance of keeping out of bad traffic?
As an alternative... are there any routes you would recommend for by-passing Houston entirely, but still winding up on westbound I-10?

I'd say 10am if you are traveling east to west. The inbound traffic east of town should have died down by then and I-10 west of town should be relatively smooth sailing (barring any accidents).
Not sure if there is a good alternate route.
