That sound is normal for BMW's with a manual transmision. Its the dual mass flywheel flexing and dampening the vibrations.
I would say "the sound" is more like that of a
bunch of marbles in a metal coffee can. As long as the noise goes away when you step on the clutch - this noise is normal.
If you turn off the engine you will also hear the flywheel make some noises as the rpms slow to nil. IF you depress the clutch while switching off the engine, you won't hear that noise. I also turn off the engine with the clutch pedal depressed.
