From what I understood of the published claims by BMW, it's the latter.
That makes sense, since a DCT is a manual. The difference is that a computer is pushing the clutch (and doing the shift, if you let it) instead of you.
That said, I'd love to hear someone explain why an auto can get more torque compared to a manual.
