They can wire even more into it. It's a pretty state of the art unit. IIRC, it blows the Haltec unit that Vishnu uses out of the water in terms of memory and processing power also, in addition to being able to interface with many more functions.
I believe the Vishnu can only accomodate up to 4 imputs/outputs.
The Helix unit is pretty darn state of the art as piggybacks go. I'm not aware of any on the market that are more feature rich, and it's pretty darn cheap.
