It probably works the same. using GPS, bluetooth handset and Google or BMW maps to get you to the nearest help point (I'm guessing here).
However, I doubt very much that it would be free for 4 years here. Probably free for the first year and then a subscription for every year after that.
BMW Assist is a new program launched this year for us in Australia.
