Inspect the belt and pulleys carefully. If there is even the slightest indication of the belt being uncentered on either the tensioner or idler, replace immediately. Failure of the belt drive on these motors often wraps the belt around the crank pulley, forcing fragments past the main seal and destroying internal components.
At eight years I'd replace it all just as a matter of preemptive maintenance.
