OP, I feel for you dude.
I had a similar experience.
In 2005, my 2003 Z4 was rear ended by a lady in a 3 series vert.
I had stopped at a red light behind a Brinks truck when she rear ended me..
Needless to say my Z4 became a bit of a ham sandwich and the repair costs to front and rear were approx $14K.
When I raised the issue at the time of diminished value, my Insurance Company (Allstate) claimed they were unfamiliar with that concept and that since the repairs were being done by BMW, it would be as good as,and as valuable as, before the accident.
When I traded the Z4 in during 2008 for the 1er vert, I discovered that I would have been given $6K more had it been accident free.
