Actually, BMW even says you have to drop the drive shaft to properly get to the carrier that has to be replaced. Not a difficult thing, but consumes time, and of course if something goes wrong, like a bolt loosens or snaps, warranty claim and they see it wasn't installed in house, knowing BMWNA, it will be denied. Was worth the $200 to have a dealer throw it on, and my knuckles are happy for it...
