Actually.. that's not so preposterous at all.. at least from the point of view of a person that handles many such claims a year.....
Consider..
-No disptick tube - BMW Win?
-sealed transmission - See above?
-sealed intake (presuming charge pipe is intact)
- intake is high up and on top of the motor
- fully enclosed intake air filter area (no open cone type filter)
-double VANOS on the camshafts handles control of intake and exhaust valves opening and closing
-the motor was OFF and not turning, so it's not as if water can be ingested into a cylinder
- water entry into the exhaust likely blocked from rising upward due to multiple catalytic converters and lengthy exhaust pipes and intake manifold plumbing
So.. yes.. I would agree.. it's probably not easy for water to get into an S54T with the engine off and a factory air intake.
Many Jeeps can be submergerd in water with the vehicle running and an elevated intake
