After the initial discussion thread about the plan of a color change (
Your Opinions on Messing Metallic) i finally pulled the trigger on a grey metallic (glossy) wrap! this experience taught me that its really difficult to judge how a small color sample would look on a complete car, especially one that was never on a car before.
I like the AW, however I really wanted a grey tone metallic color for the 1M, more elegant and sporty, especially that every other car in Dubai is white, so you simply disappear among the crowd
with a wrap experience, i can hardly be convinced to do a paint job. A wrap is much more simple, less risky, gives similar results, especially with the latest available finishes and foil quality. Not to mention that it can be removed any time you want, while maintaining the original condition and color of the car.
The Candy Grey metallic was a two layered wrap having a base silver metallic, and a transparent light grey layer on top to give the final color and add depth to the foil, just like a real paint job.
installation was done at one of the best wrap places in Dubai (
FibraFoil) and duration was nearly 10 days. Once the car was done it had to be left under sunlight for the wrap to stick permanently and give the chance for any bubbling to appear so it can be removed. after that by a week, i took the car back for a complete polish! yes the wrap must be polished to dramatically remove the orange peel effect. unfortunately all of the pictures posted in this thread were taken
before the polishing job, so its much more glossy now
I'll post better pics later in this thread of course.
here you can see a color comparo with my previous Stratus grey 650. the 1M has a slightly Olive color hue in it, especially under direct sunlight.
Updated Pics !
I'm really happy with the results!
