I have info about this:
The 1 Series will never, at least till next generation be a FWD. Here it is the question of Audi A1 rival, based on Mini, but with BMW badge. This one shall be FWD. The problem is the naming (as usually in BMW), as it can not be called BMW 0 Series. So they are thinking of calling it 100-One (1001) just like the 2002. The other car is a sort of Smart rival. That one could be RWD if the engine is in the back.
