Early S54s had the rod bearing issue(they weren't made to factory spec) which was sorted by 2002. After that, they are replaced every 100k-150k as a wear item, which is completely acceptable given the characteristics of the engine they are in. As a point of comparison, the Mezger GT3 engine needs them every 50k.

The S65 spins rod and main bearings by an inherent design fault. From the factory they are simply too tight and do not allow proper lubrication from the oil. The only real fix currently is the Dinan stroker kit, which uses different bearings all together. Otherwise you are just replacing with equally fail prone stock units.
