The v1 is really more made for highway use. On open roads you can pick up police radar detectors as far as a few miles ahead. The V1 shows the type of signal (KA for cops), the signal strength (which generally reflects how close you are to the source) and it has some really useful arrows which will show what direction the officer is from your current location.
I usually just slow down as soon as i hear a KA band beep and then I just try and spot the police officer. It is actually pretty fun.
The cost of the V1 is less than a typical speeding ticket and has absolutely saved me several times over on trips from San Francisco to LA. I strongly recommend the V1.
The V1 will work in the city, but I usually turn mine off. It will pick up redlight cameras and other small signals and can get annoying at time.
