Whiplash -- thanks, do you think BMW might have had an intermediate step in the evolution of the spares? i.e., Porsche evolution, full size spare ==> inflatable donut spare ==> skinny wheel and high pressure tire ==> RFT.
e.g., The original spare that came with my 911 came with a 15 inch wheel and inflatable donut. The Boxster had a narrow 17" wheel with a high pressure skinny tire. The 15" wheel will not fit over the brakes on the 911; but the Boxster spare will.
