I would consider this a good opportunity on the face of it; he may be like me and put on winter tires, but drive only enough to keep it happy, avoiding snow and salt. Doing that, I have virtually no wear on my ancient winter tires and annual inspections show NO evidence of any corrosion underneath the car. Get it on a lift. I live in Chicago (and have an Audi A3 to do the heavy lifting.)
