If you plan on upgrading the system with a larger amp, and perhaps better subs, and components, then go with the base system and spend the extra money on that.
The "hi fi" system does sound a bit better as it has a higher power amp.
Check on the audio forum, as I'm not sure if the hi-fi system has better component speakers. They both have the same subs though, I believe.
