Assuming your car has four 205/50-17 tires on OEM non-sport wheels size 17x7 with 47 offset, you could go to 225/45-17 tires on these wheels with no problems, and the tire radius is equal to your original tires and therefore your speedo would still be accurate.
It should look and handle much better with the wider tires. Good luck.
