You can actually put in 91 octane if you want quite safely as long as you are not boosting it heavily on a hot day and dont mind loosing a little power as the ECU will adapt. Normal premium (95 octane) will be fine.

When I was tuning an '01 MX5 turbo several years ago I found that on anything less than 98 octane @ 12psi boost the engine would detonate audibly. And so I had to retard timing a few degrees, especially around the torque peak. @ 8 psi 95 octane could be used when ambient temps were cold. Sometimes I would encounter a bad batch of 98 octane fuel (usually from BP) and would have to switch timing maps immediately because of bad (v.audible) detonation from the engine.

BTW the difference in feel of power between 12 & 8psi was massive.
