The design is, of course, subjective (I like it too), but in terms of materials quality, it's no where near the 3-series. I used to build and install aircraft interior for Piper Aircraft, so I've been behind the scenes when it comes to building a quality (and not so quality) interior. The 1-series is pretty lack luster. They put some good materials in place where you notice it most, but when you start to get away from the passenger eye-line, things go south really quickly.
Good thing that's near the bottom of my list
As long as there are three pedals on the floor and six cylinders, plus turbo, under the hood, I'm good to go
