Advans are strong, but expensive.
Dtw-5s are cheap and effective.
Old m3 wheels are 17x8, I'm new to bmws so I don't know what the "style number" is but they're often found for sale on most sites that carry a BMW aftermarket.
I'm in the same boat as you, but I wouldn't discontinue 18s so fast. What you give up in final gearing and off the line accel you will make up in braking and highway mileage.
Also, tire prices are something to consider. What brand tires will you be running??
