That's not your standard VANOS solenoid fault code but I looked at the fault code list and I can't seem to find yours so maybe it's a similar thing.
2A80 inlet-Vanos variable cam control test, input signal
2A82 inlet-Vanos variable cam control test
2A85 outlet-VANOS variable cam control test
2A87 outlet-Vanos variable cam control test, mechanics
I had some of the above codes. I took out my VANOS solenoids, blasted them with compressed air from one of those compressed air cans and reinstalled and haven't had an issue since. Not saying that that's your issue, but that's my experience with VANOS issues to date.
