I have zero problem with these tires in 3-4 inches of snow already. This is the second year of having them and I still have atleast 50% tread left. I also wanted 245 so I could rotate them to make them last. I didn't want to run the alloys in the winter either but the rims got messed up during the first install so now they are my winter rims.
Wheel width is not measured edge to edge but rather inside of the tire bead to inside of tire bead. They are also usually stamped on the inside of the wheel on a spoke with a designation of width with a "J" next to it, eg. 7.5J18 is 18x7.5.

Both the 264 and 261M style wheels are 18x7.5 ET 48 front and 18x8.5 ET52 rear.

To answer OP, yes, you can absolutely run the rear wheels up front. It may be a bit close in strut clearance, but nothing a 3mm spacer wont fix (and you wont even need extended lugs for a 3mm spacer!). You could even run up to a 10mm spacer and go for a more flush fitment, but you may sacrifice potential tire width or need to roll fenders or add some camber.

18x8.5 square would be a nice setup for track!
