Affirmative: different design of the middle three fins/notches + indent is OEM. Below some pictures (June 2011 build). Small black triangles at the bottom of some fins/notches: tell-tale signs of the "love story" between front tires and fender liners...

Actually, so far no clarity about that. Anyway, as for now, the heat gun might be your 1M's clearance friend (but do handle with care). At least resolved the clearance issue on mine.

Below two pictures posted on the German 1M forum (the second picture is of an early 2012 build 1M). Do you see any difference in design and/or mounting ?
