My experience has been that a rwd sports car with good winter tires can manage-but if you need a car that you can rely on to be drivable year round then you should get the xi. That said, remember that awd only helps to get you moving, not to get you around a corner or to slow you down. For a short commute or if you are driving on fairly well traveled roads then I would think a 135 could get you by. If you drive through hilly no mans land and you consistently need a car for the winter months, I would recomend rwd.
