8.5 ET44 is only 1mm different than every other VMR front wheel setup. Its because you have coilovers and the strut tube is much thicker in diameter than the stock strut tube. On stock suspension, there is plenty of room inboard up front. I had the same issue with my STI. Rebranded KW V3s rubbed without spacers inboard right on the spring adjuster.
