If climate is cool and you don't drive hard, 0W-30 is fine IMHO. I still find that once it warms up the 1M, like most turbo BMWs, runs on the high side of what I'm used to so 0W-40 is great for cold starts and has a little more on the hot end. Part of the reason BMW puts 0W-30 is to increase fuel mileage but 40 should be better for warm protection as shown on the BMW chart I attached.
