that's exactly what happened to me. you will be able to start the car and drive for about 10 minutes - basically until it gets warm, then the warning lights will start popping up and the engine will go into limp mode until it finally shuts itself off. if you have any suspicion your water pump has gone, listen for the extra-loud whirring of a cooling fan trying to keep up with the otherwise disabled cooling system.
