for simple acceleration there isn't much reason to wind it out past 6k. turning complicates that a little.
for puttering around town just leave it in normal and let it save your gas.
if you haven't already, you'll get this motion down so mindlessly you'll be able to do it sleepwalking: pull the shifter toward you and push forward in one fluid motion. that's about when you begin playing around in traffic.
