Ask when it had it inlet valves cleaned
Check for any signs of oil leaks.
In the engine bay see if the screws near the air vents and cowl look new or have been used a lot. This is how you could tell that it has been modified then taken back to stock.
See if injectors or hpfp has been fixed in log book.
Ask for vin number and do a check at bmw what has been done service wise
