I don't think it matters what MY it is if you really want one, but that said, I agree, BMW would have nothing to gain by saying "Oh yeah, we'll build some 2012 1M's up till 6/2012 when E82 production actually ends. Why not?" They want maximum hype today and for as long as possible, which is nothing but smart marketing if you ask me.
I amend my position once again back to believing there will be no 2012's once it's January 1, 2012 and you can no longer order one. Or until there's an actual press release from M division stating such (which if you look very closely, this is not. It's merely a teaser production schedule they dangled out there to leave the door wide open for innuendo and interpretation, which BMW knew everybody would have a field day with.
