For about a years time prior to 9/10 BMW was putting the 6 speaker base stereo in there where as before that and after 9/10 they were putting the 8 speaker HiFi in as standard. Is your car a convertible by any chance? I had seen some people with convertibles built during the base stereo period reporting they were getting the 8 speaker system.
