It really just boils down to what you value in your car and what your overall goals are for the car.
As OP noted - 1M's are not appreciating like they are in the USA. I know a lot of guys overseas and out of the USA have trouble or pay premiums for parts so for him it likely was cheaper to buy the 1M and single turbo it than piece for piece doing a
true 1m conversion, cosmetic and mechanical.
A lot of people think doing a 1M conversion is simply bolting up the body work, widening the rear arches and adding m3 wheels, when in reality if you want to do a
true 1M conversion with all the suspension, lsd, prop shaft, steering, MDM, etc. it costs significantly more.
But again, not everything has to make sense financially with car builds. For a lot of us, myself included, building a car is a true joy and it is about the process and there is an emotional experience with the entire thing. Its about learning, being creative, collaborating and doing something new. The experience of the process is as enjoyable as the outcome.
