To a degree. I still think the technology isn't quite there yet for electric cars in terms of battery technology (weight wise). Hybrids are very complicated things and to get them to work in unison with a combustion engine is expensive. When battery technology progresses I'm sure it will probably be better just to make a fully electric car than a hybrid. More of a trend thing probably, but what do I know I'm just a normal consumer.
