My car got stranded in NYC because of the starter. Luckily BMW dealer was the next block over so me and my friends pushed the car there. They quoted me $1500 to fix it. Mechanics at the shop ended up bump starting the car for me. Drove it 4 hours home after that and tackled the DIY in the middle of winter in the parking lot.

I broke the breather hose behind the engine. It becomes brittle over time so be careful when removing it. Other than that, it's basically intake manifold removal and reinstall with 3 screws for the starter.
