Locking them at max lift is fine for a race car, but for a street car you need them adjusting to compensate for wear over time (not that much time-- say 30,000 miles)... So not an acceptable solution.

Not to mention that max lift is going to wear expensive components out much, much faster!

Every aspect of the engine was designed around the redline they set for it. Increasing redline VASTLY increases engine wear. Specific to your lightweight block, increasing RPM creates lots of extra heat, which will quickly warp an alu/mag block.
You know that even aa's tune for example sets max lift? It helps with response as well as flow

They only adjust for efficiency, not for wear compensation

Higher limit would increase wear like that if you held it on the limiter sure..
