This is correct. The surface needs to be cleaned and prepped PROPERLY prior to using any tape. The spoiler also needs to be cleaned and prepped prior to putting tape on it. Posted above is the 3M tape you need. Regular automotive store 3M double sided is ok, and can work (I used it successfully on my first spoiler), but there are different quality levels of the stuff.

Also keep in mind, the quality of the piece you get will determine how well it sticks down.

That said... When my first spoiler broke in an accident, the OEM Performance spoiler I got to replace it was installed by BMW using 3M tape. There's absolutely no reason to use Betalink.
