Maybe it's because of the way that you drive your cars differently, like one more dd and other more track
Maybe you didn't follow same break-in with them.
I don't think it has anything to do with the different oil grades. Before the first service my car was with original oil (for sure Castrol 5w30) and now with Mobil 1 0w40 and it never lost any oil with either of them, there is a slight difference with the 0w40 Mobil 1 that I notice, the engine gets to optimum temperature a bit quicker compared to original oil, that's all.
