I have a love affair with both VW and BMW products. The Golf R and the 1M
are in no way competitors. If for no other reason, pricing. Expected U.S. pricing on the Golf R is $34k. You can't even get into a no-options 135i for that. For the money, the Golf R is the best
new car you can buy in the U.S. That being said, I'd rather pick up a CPO E46 M3. A barely-used example would be around the same price, have a comparable warranty (VW's U.S. warranty is only 3 years/36,000 miles B2B and 5 years/60,000 miles powertrain), likely more features and options, and be RWD (aka,
right-wheel drive), and it's an M car.

They're the exact same seats that you'll find in all '06-present U.S. GTIs with leather, the only difference being the embossed R logo on the headrests.
