BlackjackMulligan - thanks for the offer, but looking at it more, it looks like the scratch is too deep to polish (there's paint chipping up on the sides).
i've got an appointment with my insurance agent for tomorrow to get their estimate. after that, i'll be in a better position to decide if the panels are going to be repainted.
