It works quite well. I was surprised on how strong of a magnet it is. I change my oil every 6K miles.... and I was really shocked at the amount of metal particles that I found on the UUC drain plug. After the third oil change... I only get microscopic amounts of metal dust on the magnet now.
Its worth it to use on of these plugs.
